Procedural fairness facilitates cooperative behavior by enhancing cooperative expectations

چکیده

Two experiments were conducted to explore whether and why procedural fairness may promote cooperation. In both experiments, participants first took part in a task which they connected an allocator who then either selected fair or unfair procedure for allocating outcomes between them. After this manipulation of fairness, performed second we studied their cooperation chicken game. Experiment 1, informed that opponent the game was same person had previously (vs. unfair) procedure. 2, learned not been involved selection prior Both studies showed having experienced facilitated subsequent Mediation analyses suggest positive effect explained by finding experience induced expect higher levels from opponent, even when fairness.

Cooperative Benefit and Cost Games under Fairness Concerns

Solution concepts in cooperative games are based on either cost games or benefit games. Although cost games and benefit games are strategically equivalent, that is not the case in general for solution concepts. Motivated by this important observation, a new property called invariance property with respect to benefit/cost allocation is introduced in this paper. Since such a property can be regar...

"Procedural" values for cooperative games

This paper introduces a new notion of a “procedural” value for cooperative TU games. A procedural value is determined by an underlying procedure of sharing marginal contributions to coalitions formed by players joining in random order. We consider procedures under which players can only share their marginal contributions with their predecessors in the ordering, and study the set of all resultin...

Toward Adaptive Cooperative Behavior

We analyze the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma and the performance of GRADUAL, the best behavior found so far. This behavior has the undesirable property of permanent memory, which would be detrimental for stability. As a solution to the permanent memory problem, we propose an adaptive tit-for-tat behavior that uses a self-regulated estimate of the opponent’s friendliness. On a second level, we dem...

Logics for Non-Cooperative Games with Expectations

We introduce the logics E(G) for reasoning about probabilistic expectation over classes G of games with discrete polynomial payoff functions represented by finite-valued Lukasiewicz formulas and provide completeness and complexity results. In addition, we introduce a new class of games where players’ expected payoff functions are encoded by E(G)-formulas. In these games each player’s aim is to ...

Chimpanzee lip-smacking facilitates cooperative behaviour

Signalling plays an important role in facilitating and maintaining affiliative or cooperative interactions in social animals. Social grooming in primates is an example of an interaction that requires coordination between partners but little is known about communicative behaviours facilitating this activity. In this study, we analysed the communication of wild chimpanzees of Budongo Forest, Ugan...
